New hotels opening this year in California, from wine country to the beach (LA Times)

Jan 8 2018

For those who want to stay somewhere new in the new year, here are five California luxury hotels set to open in 2018.

West Hollywood

Kimpton’s La Peer Hotel in WeHo joins three other of the brand’s boutique luxury hotels in Southern California — Hotel Palomar L.A. in Westwood, Everly Hotel in Hollywood, Hotel Wilshire in L.A. — and opens Jan. 16. It has 105 rooms and suites, and design elements such as sculptured walls and a lobby with a floating, carved ceiling. You can have craft cocktails brought to your room or set up one-on-one fitness training sessions. Prices start at $450 a night. Info: La Peer Hotel, 627 N. LaPeer Drive, West Hollywood; (800) 373-6365

Healdsburg

The small Harmon Guest House with just 39 rooms, including six suites, is located next to its sister property h2hotel in downtown Healdsburg.

Every room in this wine country property near the town plaza has a private balcony or patio, and adjoining rooms are available for families and groups. It is set to open in spring by Piazza Hospitality, which also is opening the 78-room Hotel San Luis Obispo this winter. Midweek prices start at $229. Info: Harmon Guest House, 227 Healdsburg Ave., Healdsburg; (707) 431-8220

Montecito

The 16-acre private beach near Santa Barbara was a longtime landmark beach resort. Now it will be the Rosewood Miramar Beach Montecito, with 161 rooms and suites, some of which are cottages or bungalows. Gardens, two swimming pools, a Sense spa, fitness center and membership-only beach club round out the luxury offerings at the resort slated to open in summer. Prices start at $825 a night. Info: Rosewood Miramar Beach Montecito, 1555 S. Jameson Lane, Montecito

Manhattan Beach

The Westdrift has some pretty luxury touches: a nine-hole golf course, CrossFit-inspired fitness center and an indoor/outdoor restaurant. The hotel, part of the Autograph Collection, has 392 rooms and suites, some with private balconies.

The style is described as “bi-coastal chic,” with wood and metal touches. Case in point: an Argentine driftwood check-in desk, as well as artwork by California artist Eric Zener. It is set to open in February. Prices start at $219 on weekends, $249 on weekdays. Info: Westdrift, 1400 Parkview Ave., Manhattan Beach; (310) 546-7511

Newport Beach

The Lido House is another Autograph Collection hotel coming to Southern California. Lido House brings 130 rooms, eight suites and five three-story cottages — each with a distinct motif by different designers — to Balboa Peninsula.

Lido House will feature a rooftop bar called the Topside, a saltwater pool with private cabanas, a fitness center and a spa. The overall design will feature Cape Cod-style architecture. It’s set to open in March. Prices start at $300 a night. Info: Lido House, 3300 Newport Blvd., Newport Beach; (949) 524-8500
